May 21st and 22nd here at Discovery.
Discovery Middle School has received an A by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). This grade reflects Discovery's most recent academic performance. Letter grades are calculated based on data collected throughout each school year and takes into account a variety of factors including student performance and student growth. New this year, parents and staff will receive notification by email, voice or SMS text from P-H-M’s SchoolMessenger service. School delay and closing information will also be available on the Penn-Harris-Madison website: www.phmshools.org and with local media including on their websites prior to 6 a.m. whenever possible. If schools are closed, most events are cancelled or postponed.
Discovery Middle School has been recognized as a 2010-2011 Indiana Four Star School. Only 162 schools out of 1,780 public schools received the award. To be considered a Four Star School, a school’s combined English/Language Arts and Math ISTEP+, passing percentages must fall into the top 25th percentile when compared to schools statewide. A school must also have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under the federal No Child Left Behind Act to qualify.
For families new to our area, Martin's has a wonderful program that provides equipment to our school. The Martin's Advantages for Education Program provides free educational equipment to schools within our area. Shoppers simply fill out the form with your card number and your school's four digit ID number. Discovery's number is 4864. Once it is processed, the card is registered.
