♦May 28 - June 1, 2012 Two hundred and twenty five of our 8th grade students will be in Washington, D.C., culminating their 8th grade study of American History. Students not traveling to DC have a full week of activities planned for them here. Therefore, they will be expected to attend school every day that week. Discovery English Academic Super Bowl Team wins state
Discovery Middle School's English Academic Super Bowl Team has placed first in state competition. Teacher James Howard is the coach.
Discovery Middle School's Math Academic Super Bowl Team and their coach, Michelle Crawford, are to be congratulated on their state runner-up finish.

Eric's Promise Clothing Drive
Discovery Middle School’s Student Leadership Organization participated in and sponsored Eric’s Promise through the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of St. Joseph County.
We recycle cell phones!
Attention all cell phone users! If you have any old cell phones just sitting around the house, please drop them off at the office. The school receives money for recycling old cell phones. This money is used to help supplement extracurricular activities. See Mrs. Saoud for more details.
Discovery Athletic Accomplishments
On May 1st Discovery Track and Field teams competed victorious against John Young. 7th grade girls scored 90-10, 8th grade girls 84-16, 7th grade boys 96-4 and 8th grade boys 69-31. Go Archers!!
Discovery named a 2010-2011 Indiana Four Star School
Discovery Middle School has been recognized as a 2010-2011 Indiana Four Star School. Only 162 schools out of 1,780 public schools received the award. To be considered a Four Star School, a school’s combined English/Language Arts and Math ISTEP+, passing percentages must fall into the top 25th percentile when compared to schools statewide. A school must also have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under the federal No Child Left Behind Act to qualify.
School Cancellations and Delays
When school must be cancelled or delayed due to inclement weather, announcements will be posted on Penn-Harris-Madison’s main website http://www.phmschools.org/. The school district can provide more detailed information than the media can.
Martin's Advantages for Education Program
For families new to our area, Martin's has a wonderful program that provides equipment to our school. The Martin's Advantages for Education Program provides free educational equipment to schools within our area. Shoppers simply fill out the form with your card number and your school's four digit ID number. Discovery's number is 4864. Once it is processed, the card is registered.
Indiana Parent Network
The Indiana Department of Education provides parents with an online parent network. Last spring parents were provided a invitation code to view your childs ISTEP+ results. On the Indiana Parent Network parents can review student results, access to personalized resources and at home learning activities for student.
