The Indiana Chapter of the American String Teachers Association has named Discovery’s own Anne Marie Tschetter as Middle School Teacher of the Year! She received her honor in the company of her peers while participating at the association’s January 2016 Winter Conference.
As orchestra director at Discovery Middle School, Mrs. Tschetter has helped her students accomplish truly great things. She inspires and instructs them in their proficiency as musicians, and models and encourages them in their growth as young men and women. And, of course, her students love her!
Mrs. Tschetter received her undergraduate degree in music education (B.M.E.) from Grand Valley State College and her graduate degree in music performance on viola (M.M.) from the University of Notre Dame. Originating from Lansing, Michigan, Mrs. Tschetter has taught orchestra in Oconee County, South Carolina (1984-86), South Haven Public School District in South Haven, Michigan (1986-88), and South Bend Community School Corporation (1988-1996), before joining P-H-M in 1996.
Mrs. Tschetter's students and orchestras have received Gold ratings in both Michigan and Indiana competitions, and With Distinction awards at Indiana State School Music Association competitions. She has grown the Discovery Middle School Orchestras in the past 20 years from a small new school program to the current 150+ orchestra members, including the addition of string and honors multi-age classes.
Mrs. Tschetter is a violist, violinist, and cellist and performs with the Indigo String Quartet and local symphonies on an as need basis. She has performed with the South Bend Symphony, Southwest Michigan Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, Elkhart Symphony, LaPorte Symphony, West Shore Symphony, Kent Philharmonia, Greenville Symphony, Anderson Symphony, and others. Her professional memberships include: American Federation of Musicians, National Education Association, Indiana Music Educators Association, American String Teachers Association, and the National Association for Music Education.
Anne lives in Mishawaka, Indiana with her husband, Chet. Her three children, Paul, Anna, and, Joe are attending DePauw University and Indiana University in South Bend. Paul will head off in May to teach high school English with the Teach for America program, while Anna and Joe pursue fine arts (drawing, animation, and media arts) at Indiana University South Bend.
Discovery Middle School is a national blue-ribbon school in great part because of its outstanding faculty, made up of people like Anne Tschetter, who dedicate themselves daily to student success.
