Abhijay Masetty Invited to White House for National History Day Competition

Incoming Penn Freshman, and former Discovery student, Abhijay Masetty was invited to a writers’ workshop and tour of The People’s House: A White House Experience on Wednesday, June 11. It was part of the National History Day Competition; this Year’s Theme: Rights and Responsibilities. Abhijay won 1st Place at State and is competing in the national competition with his paper titled: "The Bonus Army March of 1932: A Fight of Determination, Unity, and to Uphold One’s Responsibilities."

Desperate for relief during the Great Depression, World War I veterans organized a demonstration march on Washington demanding immediate payment of their promised bonus certificates due in 1945.

Abhijay's paper will eventually be featured on the White House Historical Association website, https://www.whitehousehistory.org/.
