February Newsletter

Dear Parents and Students,

We certainly have had some interesting weather the past week...going from negative 20 up to today's 50 degrees is totally a new experience!!  Students responded well to eLearning assignments; remember they have two days to complete their work.  Teachers have been helping students finalize these lessons the last few days.

During the next two weeks students are taking the AIRWays Winter Interim test which will show growth for the Interim they took in September, at the beginning of the school year.  These tests are similar to ILEARN testing which will take place a week after we return from Spring Break.  We continue to work with students as they learn the new formatting for this test.

This past Saturday, our Math Counts team brought home a regional championship!  Not only did our team (Derick Shi, Felix Zhang, Raymond Luo, and Zichu Wang) win first place, but 7 of our students were among the 12 students who qualified for State.  We are grateful to our Discovery alumni (Tingyi Lu, Lyvia Li, Aidan Sweeney, Grace Waddell, and Seunghoon Sun) coaches for their dedication to the team!

Three of our art students placed in this year's area Scholastic Art Competition where only 4 middle school students were recognized.  Ashley Roush received two Silver Key Awards for her multi-media drawings, Morgan Collins received an Honorable Mention for a colored pencil drawing, and Addy Byers also received an Honorable Mention for her multi-media sculpture.  This is pretty amazing when most awards are given to high school students!  Go, Archers!!

We are in the midst of great learning lessons as we continue to move into second semester.  We continue to need your partnership to make this a wonderful place!

With our students in mind,

Mrs. Harper, principal
